Buttonville Heritage Conservation District Study & Plan

 Purpose

The purpose of this study is to undertake a revised heritage conservation district study and plan for the historic community of Buttonville. This work will update a previous study done in 1988. The heritage conservation district plan will encourage the preservation and enhancement of heritage buildings and will provide clear, concise guidelines for new construction and additions. The public will be able to provide input into the study and plan through public information/feedback meetings this spring, and through an advisory committee. The study and plan are being undertaken by Phillip Carter and Associates, assisted by Markham's Heritage Section staff.

 Timeframe

The study was initiated in the winter of 2005 and was completed during summer, 2005. A Heritage Conservation District Plan will be prepared by the consultant team this fall. Completion of the district designation is target for early in 2006.

 Current Status

The Buttonville Heritage Conservation District Advisory Committee and Heritage Markham have reviewed the heritage district study, including the recommended boundary for the heritage district. A public information meeting to present the findings of the study will be held at the Heritage Schoolhouse, Buttonville, on Thursday, October 27, 2005, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The address is 2 Valleywood Drive. Local residents and property owners will be notified by mail of the meeting.
