Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti Congratulates Ontario Government for AMD Funding $56M funding creates next generation of jobs and economic growth

(AMD), was awarded a five-year grant of $56.4 million to fund research and development (R & D) activities for the development of its leading edge AMD Fusion family of processors, related software infrastructure and integrated computing platforms. Markham Staff join 2009 business mission to China
The Trillium Medical Technology Association (TMTA) is leading a business mission to Hong Kong and Shenzhen in April and two Town of Markham staff will be joining the delegation.
John Livey, Town of Markham CAO and Chair of the National Centre for Medical Development Corporation, and Christina Kakaflikas, Special Projects Manager of Economic Development are set to participate in the mission, which runs from April 13 to 23, 2009.
The mission will give them the opportunity to promote Markham as a preferred investment location and strategic partner, and to showcase the National Medical Device Research Centre Project, Markham's long championed public-private partnership.
Markham will also be represented at the China International Medical Equipment Fair. The Fair, a world-renowned annual medical technologies exhibition, attracts over 55,000 visitors and 15,000 exhibitors. While there, Markham delegates will be introduced to medical technology businesses and investors from around the world.

Municipalities approve Barrie Hydro-PowerStream merger Barrie, Markham and Vaughan to sign agreement merging their electric utilities
Oct 2, 2008 - The Councils of the Town of Markham, the City of Barrie and the City of Vaughan have all endorsed an agreement which will merge PowerStream, an electricity distribution company jointly owned by the City of Vaughan and the Town of Markham, with Barrie Hydro, a utility owned exclusively by the City of Barrie. The decision to move forward on this utility merger has been in the works for several months. Read more »

Sep 24, 2008 - Markham received a first place award for its marketing of the China Business Mission 2008 at the recent 40th annual Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) conference.
