The Office of the Auditor General was established in 2008. It is independent of the Town of Markham administration and reports directly to Council through General Committee, ensuring its work is completed freely and objectively.
The Auditor General conducts audits that assist council in achieving added value for taxpayers' dollars. Audits focus on efficiency and effectiveness of town operations and program delivery and on compliance with laws and regulations.
All programs, activities and functions of Town of Markham departments, local boards and any municipally-controlled corporations and grant recipients may be subject to an audit.
