| How to Complete and Submit a Building Permit Application |
The Ontario Building Code requires building permit applications to be made by the registered owner of a property or an agent authorized by the owner to act on their behalf. The completed application forms (including Schedules), construction plans and form of payment should be brought to the Building Standards Department front counter located just inside the Milliken entrance of the Markham Civic Centre. Please inform the Application Administrator of the nature of the project. The administrator will review your submission to ensure everything is in order. You will be given a receipt with an application number for your reference.
Please note: this is not your building permit. Construction may not proceed until a building permit has been issued. Your Application Administrator will oversee the building permit application process from the initial application stage through to issuance.

Submissions will be screened at the time of building permit application and reviewed in accordance with one of the following checklists to ensure that all required information is submitted. As the applicant, you must also be aware of other approvals required by an applicable law that are necessary prior to the issuance of the building permit.
